Laura has been teaching for many years. Working with students is something that she really enjoys and loves to show her students the joy that creating music can bring. She has completed her elementary pedagogy and is working to finish the next level.
She is always looking for new material to use with her students and continues to learn as a teacher. Playing piano is a loved activity and students enjoy hearing previews of pieces they would like to learn in the future.
Enthusiasm is very present in her student and she celebrates every accomplishment with students. Classes are tailored to the student's needs in an effort to achieve the goals the student set both for short term and long term.
Students come to class with their books and are often excited to show the new piece or section of piece they have practiced.
Mrs Stewart spends the first part of every class listening to her students play what they have worked on. As an elementary specialist, Mrs Stewart looks for piano games that can help solidify concepts that a student would be working on.
Students find the games break up the class and keep the excitement of playing what they worked on continuing. The games also allow young students to move around. Many piano students find playing complex because they are required to do so many things at once. The games give the students a chance to work on only one skill at a time and takes the complexity away.
Mastering one challenging item in their piece can make enough difference that the student becomes more motivated to practice. The games help solidify skills such as note reading, counting, symbol identification and proficiency. Those skills can create a student who will continue to play piano for the rest of their lives.
